2010 Central Park Conservancy "Hat" Lunch

This year was the 28th Annual Frederick Law Olmsted Awards Luncheon aka the Central Park Conservancy "Hat" Luncheon.

Unfortunately, I was so busy hostessing my peeps, I wasn't able to get photos of all the extraordinary head wear.

But I did capture the hats of nearby ladies.

Krom's Idea of Proper Nutrition

I received many requests from those who read about the making of my hat to see Krom wearing the hat along with the entire ensemble.

As I was leaving, this guy (the legendary Bill Cunningham of the New York Times) took my picture, a real KromStyle coup. We have had several encounters, and this is the first time he didn't look me up and down and move on.

This is an extraordinary way to spend the afternoon ☀ delicious food, amazing friends, abundant eye candy (the garden, the hats, and the famous), great conversation ♥ all honoring the people who make a difference in the life of the park and the city $ fundraising to keep Central Park looking superfabulous so it can be enjoyed by all.

As I was walking home, a man approached me and said, "That's the best hat I've ever seen". It doesn't get much better than that for KromStyle.

Preparation for the 2010 Central Park Conservancy "Hat" Lunch

On Wednesday, May 5, 2010, I'm off to Central Park Conservancy's 28th Annual Frederick Law Olmsted Awards Luncheon. Each year, I look forward to this date on the social calendar because it's always an afternoon filled with the beauty of the Conservatory Garden, the resonant sounds of strings and horns, and a vibrant show of finery.

After decorating my hat for the last couple of years' lunches, I decided to make a tradition of it. As the year passes, I'm always on the lookout for supplies for this special project.

For this year's hat, I used two birds from last year's hat.

A flower from gift wrapping on a present from my parents, a branch of faux ivy from Gracious Home, and a butterfly from the wrapping on a jewelry store purchase rounded out the ingredients for this year's hat.

Preparation for the 2009 Central Park Conservancy "Hat" Luncheon

After decorating my hat for last year's Frederick Law Olmsted (FLO) Awards Luncheon, I decided to make a tradition of it. As the year passes, I'm always on the lookout for supplies for this project. At this year's Chocolate Show, one chocolate company was using blue birds as part of its gift packaging. When I saw the birds neatly lined up on the table, I immediately thought of the "Hat" Lunch. I explained to the woman at the counter what I wanted to do with one of their birds, and she gladly let me select a bird to join me for lunch.

My friend Jane who introduced and accompanied me to the Chocolate Show, later saw this pink bird on display at a department store. With me in mind, she asked the salesperson about the bird, and he said go ahead and take it.

Back

The hat is an inexpensive straw hat I bought a few years ago with the "Hat" Lunch in mind. The final ingredient was the leaves. They were left over from another project, and I thought the colors worked well together. After I collected all the materials, the design fell into place.

Remember a bird in the hand is worth less than two on a hat.

Jessie Murphy in the Woods Get Ready to Go to London

I have just completed three more accessories for Marcia Webb of Jesse Murphy in the Woods. Because Marcia often wears a headband when the group performs, I made a headpiece that is worn like a headband, but looks more like a small hat.

Jessie Murphy in the Woods were performing at a benefit for the American Folk Art Museum in early January, and they are now getting ready to go to London for a few appearances. Their stage wardrobe is coming along.

Camera Ready

Personal Trainer and much more, Colleen Wahl, had an upcoming TV appearance, and needed to look authoritative, sporty and chic. One call to KromStyle, and Colleen was ready for her close-up.

Black Vince leggings and a striped shirt from H&M form the foundation of this look. A Stussy gray sweatshirt-like tunic, and black patent Mary Janes add style and femininity.

As a personal trainer, Colleen always thinks of the total person, and his/her personal path for success as a stronger, more flexible, and better aligned person. She hones in on a person's inequities and weaknesses, and harnesses the strength of the individual to forge a path to improvement and accomplishment. Since I have been training with her, I feel more powerful and flexible, and most importantly, can fit into my white jeans.

Jessie Murphy in the Woods in Concert

Last night as I was fitting Jessie, Amy and Marcia, they showed me their band's logo. It was pretty eerie that the silhouettes I had created for them were so similar to the ones on their logo, talk about the alignment of the stars.
