Grammy Grumblings

Special K: You watching the red carpet? I'm soooo bummed we are not there.

Me: No I'm off to hockey, but take notes! You'll have to be the KromStyle correspondent. Sooooo bummed with you!

Special K: Are you serious? I'm so honored I can't stand it. OK now I really have to pay attention.

Me: Pay attention!

A convergence of random events...Special K stood in for me to cover Grammy style in 3D. My commentary is based on photos from the morning after (really should be one word).

Timberlake in Tom Ford
Special K: There are so many wierdos; I don't know who they are... so far JT looked awesome. Killer

My take: the shoes are too casual for a tux, and the occasion. Contradictorily, I don't mind Converse's with a tux. Doesn't make much sense, but this type of loafer belongs on a cool, sporty outfit. The bow tie is a little floppy for me. Or these loafers would go well with Chris Brown's Lanvin suit.

Brown in Lanvin

Perry in Gucci
Special K: Damn, Katy Perrry heinous dress.

Me: The jeweled part of Katy's dress is quite pretty, but the cut out is not too classy, and the color, challenging.

Rihanna in Alaia
Special K: OK Rihanna looks disgusting. You can see her pierced nipple through her gauzy gown. Nasty hoochie mama.

Me: Since I can't see the boob violation, the dress looks beautiful on Rihanna. And the hair and makeup look SuperFab.

Jack White
Special K: What are people thinking who have a lot of $ and a stylist and they wear a black suit, black shirt, and black tie??? Let me know when I'm bugging you. Don't want to mess with hockey.

Me: Don't worry. Once I get out there, I won't be responding til you're sound asleep. the running commentary though

Beyonce in Osman Jumpsuit
Special K: Beyonce in a pantsuit.  Not good.

Me: Pants with this silhouette do not flatter her figure.

Me: Keep the commentary coming...

Special K: Skull iPhone emoji

Me: Niiiice!

Special K: Wave iPhone emoji, Surfer iPhone emoji
Special K: Maybe you can tell I like my new phone.

Me: Just a little bit...keep it to the Grammys.

Florence Welch in Givenchy
Special K:  Florence (and machine) looks like she's from Eragon and it's Givenchy. I'm shocked.

Me: Back on track...I like it.

Me: I actually love this. Yes it's reptilian, but also very cool. And the color is amaze on her. I want to touch her.

 Taylor Swift Performing
Special K: Taylor Swift is channeling Lewis Carroll and she still cannot sing.

Me: Sounds Scary!

Special K: If it were Zonker Harris Day, it would work.

Me: Nice Wes ref.

LL Cool J
Special K: LL Cools looks hot!

Me: Smoking!

John Mayer in Brioni
Special K: OK you might not agree, but I LOVE John Mayer's blue tux.

Me: I LOVE...we agree.

Kelly Rowland in Georges Chakra Couture
Special K: I do not like the fishtail trend.

Me: Me neither. This gown from the knees up totally works.

Frank Ocean in Dior Homme
Special K: Nice suit Frank Ocean.

Me: Agreed. Fresh, clean look.

Adele in Armani
Special K: KromStyle, don't even look at Adele.  You will be ill.

Me: It's a shame because she looked so good at the Golden Globes in Burberry. I quite like the shoes with this style dress; however, the dress is so unflattering and unforgiving.

Me: Gotta go; keep it up!

Special K: Have fun!

Me: Thanx

Special K: Prabal Gurung for Target. What are we buying?

16 hours later...

This is what I want.
Prabal Gurung for Target

Back to Grammy coverage...

Johnny Depp in Lots
Special K: I'm soooo sorry. Johnny Depp is smokin' hot

Special K: Rihanna coming up and Jack White. No thanks. Night night. sleeping face emoji

Additional images I thought to be noteworthy...

Deadmau5 and Kat Von D in Derek Lam Dress
A grid is tricky on a curvy figure.

Alexa Chung
Love the color combination, silver and yellow, but the dress is so wrong season.

Redfoo of LMFAO
 Making me LMFAO!

Kelly Osbourne in Poca & Poca
Love her choice of hair color and yellow jewelry!

Wiz Khalifa in Tom Ford and AmberRose
 Wiz works it!

Natasha Bedingfield in Emerson
Great from head to toe.

Gotye and Kimbra
Figure skating outfit gone awry?

Ne-Yo
 Don't get me started...

Swift in J. Mendel
Very sophisticated and refined...double thumbs up!

Nas
 Best footwear!

Esperanza Spaulding in Eden Diodati
♥ ♥ ♥ cape and gown and her whole look.

Neyla Pekarek of the Lumineers in David Meister
She's so cute and talented and was found on Craig's List.

2013 Golden Guys and Girls

Better late than never?

Awards shows always garner lots of attention, but often, peeps are more interested in the red carpet than the actual awards presented. This year in the Style category, there weren't many great outside the box thinkers save maybe Kate Hudson and Amy Poehler, and definitely Marion Cotillard. Several fashion forward friends were wowed by Hudson's look; I thought it a bit Star Trek. Admittedly, I did not watch the Golden Globes to get the 3D experience rather I saw the images the morning after, and this could be a factor in the differences of opinion.

Kate Hudson in  Alexander McQueen
First category up, Black doesn't have to be Boring.

Katherine McPhee in Olivier Theyskens for Theory
McPhee's gown/sandal combo totally rocks.

Alison Williams in J. Mendel

Kristin Wiig in Michael Kors
Wiig's loose hair works well with the spirit of the dress, a nice American laid back look.

Julianne Moore in Tom Ford
Every detail of Moore's appearance was well conceived.

Adele in Burberry
Burberry's gown totally flatters Adele.

A Train Wreck
Heart Helena, but this look is so messy and lacks coherence.  Nice clutch though!

Amy Poehler in Stella McCartney
About as outside the box as it came, this time around.

Next category up, Ravishing in Red.

Jennifer Garner in Vivienne Westwood
The texture of Jennifer's gown is SuperFabulous.

Jennifer Lawrence in Dior Haute Couture
Overall great silhouette and look, but this dress draws strange attention to this Jennifer's bust...shelving not necessary.

Claire Danes in Versace
The 70's feel of the dress and hair completely work for Danes!

Zooey Deschanel in Oscar de la Renta
Love the pearls added to this classic confection.

Marion Cotillard in Dior Haute Couture
Every aspect of Cotillard's appearance is pure perfection, the gown's color and silhouette, hair, shoes, just the right amount of creativity and imagination. The juxtaposition of the sleek hair and the asymmetry of the dress is flawless. #1 look of the evening!

Jessica Alba
I love the feathery clutch with the gown...not much else positive to say. The jewelry is a disaster for sure.

Third category, the Power of Patterns.

Lucy Liu in Carolina Herrera
The combination of the floral pattern and silhouette of the gown is brilliant. The Heidi braid, however, is an unwelcome distraction.

Halle Berry in Atelier Versace
Halle's mix of pattern and asymmetry at the bust of her gown does not portray her enviable figure to great effect.

J-Lo in Zuhair Murad
J-Lo knows how to work lace like nobody's business.

Next category up, Breast Supporting Role.

Halle and Jennifer Lawrence accompany Chastain in this category.

Jessica Chastain in Calvin Klein
This gown doesn't do Jessica or Calvin any favors.

Next up, Best Couple.

Daniel Day-Lewis and Rebecca Miller

Jon Hamm and Jennifer Westfeldt

007 and Rachel Weisz

Let's look at the Embellished Beauty category.

Julianne Hough in Monique Lhuillier
Overall this is great look for Hough; however, I would like to see the beading in silver tones instead of the gold, brassy ones. The contrast of silver with her blonde locks would be beautiful.

Isla Fisher in Reem Acra
Nothing wrong here!

On the right track, but it didn't come together, missing element.

Gabby Douglas in Pamella Roland
Dress and clutch, check. Not feeling the hair.

Sally Field in Alberta Ferretti
I rather like the youthfulness of the dress, but the necklace completely nullifies the effect. Something big, bold and full of color would have SuperFabulously completed Field's look.

Emily Blunt in Michael Kors

Color is the only element off the mark here.  This color is very tricky.

Individuality is essential, but occasion must also be considered.
