Color Blocking is Classic

Piet Mondrian made this painting in 1930. Today this image is iconic. Can this piece of art go out of style? A rhetorical question, but I think not.

In the August, 2010 issue of Harper's Bazaar, the Color Blocked is said to be "on the outs".

Store the Color Blocked?
Really?

However, two pages earlier, VIBRANT is touted, with many great examples of color blocking.

Classics are enduring, and cannot be touched by the vagaries or contradictions of the so-called "fashion elite".

If you don't have an idea, imitating a brilliant person is a great way to go. Maybe imitating brilliant people is actually the idea.

Manolo Blahnik...The Sale

Starting Monday, July 19th
from the Spring/Summer Collection,
including some alligator

WHERE
31 West 54th Street

HOURS
Monday through Friday, 10:30 until 6:00
Saturday, 10:30 until 5:30
Sunday, noon until 5:00

IMPORTANT NOTE
The boutique will close from 2:00 until 3:00 to restock when necessary.

WHY
50% Savings and more. Better than a sample sale because someone will wait on you. If the pair you desire is not at least 60% off, check out Bergdorf's and Barneys where the Manolo's are 60% off.

You missed the first day, but you also missed the long lines. Checking this sale out is a little dangerous if you don't have money in the bank. I always find a pair that have my name written on them.

Buying Good is Doing Good

It takes the women of the Wayuu tribe of Colombia and Venezuela up to a month to weave a susu woven bag, working eight hours a day, every day.

Buying the susus directly from the Wayuu Taya Foundation, a nonprofit organization that helps improve the lives of Latin American indigenous communities while maintaining and respecting their traditions, culture and beliefs, seems like the most shrewd and socially aware thing to do. The proceeds from the sale of all the items in its online gift shop go to benefiting the Wayuu people. The bags are made at Shukumajaya, the foundation's women's center where women are educated on parenting and nutrition, family planning and hygiene. All bags are one-of-a-kind.

J. Crew sells the bags for $175 at its Madison Avenue store in Manhattan, 1035 Madison Avenue; SURevolution is selling the bags for $430 at its Bridgehampton shop, 2462 Main Street, 631. 613. 6565; the Wayuu Taya Foundation is selling the bags for $140. You do the math.

Receiving can be as beautiful as Giving.
