Christian Cota Spring 2009 Covered

All the Looks from Christian Cota, Spring 2009

On Monday September 8th, I was lucky enough to get the chance to see Christian Cota's, Spring 2009 Collection. The clothes in this collection were beautifully made, and airy. In his program, he said that these clothes were about light and a painterly effect. He also said, "...My girl is Eve, being seduced by the light, and turning all colors..." Well, his first look certainly conjured up a stunning image of Eve.

I love the blouse from his third look. The use of ombre in this collection is done to sumptuous effect.

The iridescent silk chiffon blouse from his fourth look is draped exquisitely. The contrast between these airy tops and the silk and linen bottoms (trousers above and skirt below) gives the looks a certain laid-back coolness.

Two evening dresses while using different effects are both impeccable. The strapless dress (left) has a meticulously designed beaded overlay and the silk chiffon dress (right) uses draping to statuesque effect.

I especially enjoyed the looks in which Christian combined jersey with superb draping. The simple and relaxed jersey tank paired with the very elegant silk blend front draped skirt is sublime.

These two tops while the antithesis of one another are both striking. The silk blend blouse has light, fluid flounces and the jersey tank is decorated with metal chain.

Christian Cota's treatment of jersey is sensational. He uses it to bring a certain insouciance to his looks. I appreciated the laid-back luxe he brought to this suit.

This iridescent silk chiffon draped blouse with silk tapered pant is celestial. Normally, I don't like a tapered pant, but this pairing works beautifully.

The lace cap sleeve blouse and the silk and linen draped a-line skirt compliment one another. Look at the draping detail on the waist of the skirt.

The digitally printed blouse and silk taffeta draped front pencil skirt are brilliant together, like yin and yang.

This digitally printed, silk chiffon pleated bodice gown is ethereal. Notice the beautiful pleating on the bodice.

Strangely enough, this silk jersey asymmetrical draped dress is my favorite look from the show. It was love at first sight. Every angle is flawless. This dress is the perfect combination of refinement, edginess and coolness.

Lastly, I love the fact that there was no black in this collection.

Christian Cota is from Mexico City. Originally, he studied painting, and then began his formal fashion training at the Parsons School of Design. He was a design assistant to Angel Sanchez, and then launched his own line in 2007 with a Spring/Summer 2008 collection.
