2013 Golden Guys and Girls

Better late than never?

Awards shows always garner lots of attention, but often, peeps are more interested in the red carpet than the actual awards presented. This year in the Style category, there weren't many great outside the box thinkers save maybe Kate Hudson and Amy Poehler, and definitely Marion Cotillard. Several fashion forward friends were wowed by Hudson's look; I thought it a bit Star Trek. Admittedly, I did not watch the Golden Globes to get the 3D experience rather I saw the images the morning after, and this could be a factor in the differences of opinion.

Kate Hudson in  Alexander McQueen
First category up, Black doesn't have to be Boring.

Katherine McPhee in Olivier Theyskens for Theory
McPhee's gown/sandal combo totally rocks.

Alison Williams in J. Mendel

Kristin Wiig in Michael Kors
Wiig's loose hair works well with the spirit of the dress, a nice American laid back look.

Julianne Moore in Tom Ford
Every detail of Moore's appearance was well conceived.

Adele in Burberry
Burberry's gown totally flatters Adele.

A Train Wreck
Heart Helena, but this look is so messy and lacks coherence.  Nice clutch though!

Amy Poehler in Stella McCartney
About as outside the box as it came, this time around.

Next category up, Ravishing in Red.

Jennifer Garner in Vivienne Westwood
The texture of Jennifer's gown is SuperFabulous.

Jennifer Lawrence in Dior Haute Couture
Overall great silhouette and look, but this dress draws strange attention to this Jennifer's bust...shelving not necessary.

Claire Danes in Versace
The 70's feel of the dress and hair completely work for Danes!

Zooey Deschanel in Oscar de la Renta
Love the pearls added to this classic confection.

Marion Cotillard in Dior Haute Couture
Every aspect of Cotillard's appearance is pure perfection, the gown's color and silhouette, hair, shoes, just the right amount of creativity and imagination. The juxtaposition of the sleek hair and the asymmetry of the dress is flawless. #1 look of the evening!

Jessica Alba
I love the feathery clutch with the gown...not much else positive to say. The jewelry is a disaster for sure.

Third category, the Power of Patterns.

Lucy Liu in Carolina Herrera
The combination of the floral pattern and silhouette of the gown is brilliant. The Heidi braid, however, is an unwelcome distraction.

Halle Berry in Atelier Versace
Halle's mix of pattern and asymmetry at the bust of her gown does not portray her enviable figure to great effect.

J-Lo in Zuhair Murad
J-Lo knows how to work lace like nobody's business.

Next category up, Breast Supporting Role.

Halle and Jennifer Lawrence accompany Chastain in this category.

Jessica Chastain in Calvin Klein
This gown doesn't do Jessica or Calvin any favors.

Next up, Best Couple.

Daniel Day-Lewis and Rebecca Miller

Jon Hamm and Jennifer Westfeldt

007 and Rachel Weisz

Let's look at the Embellished Beauty category.

Julianne Hough in Monique Lhuillier
Overall this is great look for Hough; however, I would like to see the beading in silver tones instead of the gold, brassy ones. The contrast of silver with her blonde locks would be beautiful.

Isla Fisher in Reem Acra
Nothing wrong here!

On the right track, but it didn't come together, missing element.

Gabby Douglas in Pamella Roland
Dress and clutch, check. Not feeling the hair.

Sally Field in Alberta Ferretti
I rather like the youthfulness of the dress, but the necklace completely nullifies the effect. Something big, bold and full of color would have SuperFabulously completed Field's look.

Emily Blunt in Michael Kors

Color is the only element off the mark here.  This color is very tricky.

Individuality is essential, but occasion must also be considered.

Ombré Denim...Do I Like?

Hmmm, ombré denim...?

Dearest KromStyle,

I am wondering how you feel about ombré denim.
I see an ad for Stella McCartney ombré denim jeans. Nice peg leg shape but I am really not sure how I feel about that ombré. So I turn to you for the definitive glamour do or don't.

Stella McCartney Ombre Jeans, $355

What do you think kromeister?

Love from,
Your biggest fan!

I found this in my inbox this morning. Let's break it down.

Here is Stella McCartney among other celebrities wearing her ombre jeans.

While I like the plain pockets, I don't care for the very tight fit. I prefer the fit of the skargorn jeans pictured below.
skargorn jeans, $135
Available at madewell.com

However, both fit and wash are personal preference and have different uses in a wardrobe and can be paired with different silhouettes both in footwear and tops. The bonus here is that the Stella McCartney jeans are now on sale at Neiman Marcus for $124.

Taking It to Target

Girls and Boys, check out the Collaborations happening at Target September 9, 2012
The Shops at Target highlights distinctive specialty stores and boutiques from near and far, offering affordable, limited-edition collections co-created by the shop owners. In September 2012, Target will launch the fall installment of The Shops at Target, with collections from four shops: New York City’s Kirna Zabête and Odin, San Francisco’s The Curiosity Shoppe and Boston’s PATCH NYC. The collections reflect each shop owner’s perspective, offering us the opportunity to experience each shop simply by visiting Target or Target.com beginning September 9, 2012.

Kirna Zabete and Target Collaborate

Odin's in the Mix for the Men
First on offer for the ladies, scarves from Kirna Zabete.
 Scarves, $22.99

Next, and what made me take notice of the collaboration, a Kromworthy sweater, albeit sight unseen.

Sweater, $29.99
This next accessory really disappoints to an HNL.  To the eye it looks pretty cute and clever, but armed with a little knowledge about jewelry, sometimes what meets the eye is not all that matters... These ladies ripped off Solange Azagury-Partridge, and they should know better, given they represent very high end designer labels... uggh, I hate hypocrisy!
 Bracelet, $24.99
Target's version of Solange's Treasures, with no shout out!
Solange Azagury-Partridge's Jewels, The Real Thing

Union Jack Lips, $1,925

Solid Color Enameled Lips, $1,500
Now for the gentlemen,

Flannel Shirt, $29.99, Canvas Pant, $34.99, Jacket, $69.99

Desert Boot, $44.99

Scarf, $19.99 and Hat, $14.99

Duffel Bag, $39.99

For the home, there are the callaborations with the Curiosity Shoppe and Patch NYC.
Feather Platter, $19.99
You know I ♥ the ironic and useless, Priceless
(although there is nothing ironic about this bell)

Cheesy America?

Be yourself, be original and be good, but, most importantly, look superfabulous while you're doing it!
