RIP Payard

Sunday brunch was the last meal served at Payard.

A very sad day for Krom, and for all Upper East Siders for that matter. This was my canteen. I am going to have to rethink my entire routine.

The Girls Came over

Monday afternoon is designated for Bridge with the girls. I bought macarons, petit fours and canapes from Payard. I made a pot of Mariage Freres Bolero tea, French Riviera fruity black tea. This exquisite tea does not get bitter no matter how long it steeps; it's fool-proof and delicious.

A little card game can be a great excuse for taking the time to appreciate and enjoy others.

Perfect Payard!

The first thing to greet you at Payard is his unbelievable cakes.

When you arrive at Payard, you have 4 choices. You can buy desserts, bread, ice cream, coffee/tea and chocolates to go; you can eat sandwiches and desserts in the cafe; you can eat in the restaurant which has a more elaborate selection of appetizers and entrees in addition to the incredible desserts; or you can order from any of the menus at the bar.

Of course, the iced tea is excellent. Iced tea refills are provided in the restaurant and at the bar.

The breads, donuts and sweet rolls are top-notch.

Of course, the pastries are world-class.

These would have been good enough for Marie Antoinette!


These are seved at tea time with minature sandwiches and scones.


The chocolates are exceptional: Top 4 as far as I am concerned. The other top 3 are La Maison du Chocolat, Martine's Chocolates and Teuscher. My favorites are Monet (milk chocolate and cinnamon ganache covered in dark chocolate), Bonnard (milk chocolate ganache and caramel covered in dark chocolate), and Picasso (dark chocolate ganache infused with earl grey tea).

These bite sized cakes are delicious and addictive. The pistachio/chocolate ones on the far right are not to be missed!

Macarons: As good as, if not better than you can get in Paris. My favorites are the pistachio, lemon/coconut, and passion fruit. My sons love the chocolate, coffee, and cassisse. There is a flavor for everyone; other flavors include raspberry and rose petal. An assortment makes a great gift!

Not only are the desserts perfection, but the food is truly impressive!
